When it comes to fashion and accessorizing, everyone has their own quick fix and anecdote of what’s hot and what’s not. But there are a few tips and tricks out there that no one can argue and our gem-fabulous team has put together a brief list just for you. With these little gems, you’ll be an overnight fashionista.

  1. Whether you’re an entrepreneur or have a 9 to 5, always dress for success. Dress for the position you want, not the position you have. Even if you’re already a CEO, dress like you’re aiming to become the CEO of a Multinational Corporation.
  2. Accessories are the focal point of any ensemble. Wearing jewelry can really elevate your look instantly.
  3. Always have a pair of crystal stud earrings in your jewelry collection. Whether fake or real, big or small, as they will go with any color, fabric, or style of cocktail dress or an everyday denim and tee ensemble. It’s the #1 go-to piece of jewelry.
  4. No matter what size you are, wearing well-fitted undergarments or shapewear, significantly enhances your silhouette.
  5. Always embrace your shape. Once you know which silhouettes flatter you, stick to those styles.
  6. Choose your best body part and show it off. So if its cleavage, don’t show your legs and if it’s your legs, stay covered on top.
  7. You don’t always have to match the color of your clothing with your accessories or shoes. Contrasting colors, shapes and patterns, make great clothing combinations and it saves you money because you don’t have to shop for new clothing often in order to create new looks.
  8. A lady should always carry a purse.
  9. Go from day to night easily, by snapping crystal clip-on earrings onto your flats for an instant evening shoe.
  10. Don’t leave the house until you like what you see — remember every angle matters. How you see yourself, determines how you carry yourself and that translates how people will perceive you.

Celebrities wearing pearls

Left to Right – Rihanna, Michelle Obama and Viola Davis all wearing stunning pearl jewelry.

Pearls are a true classic and have played a dazzling role in high fashion for decades. Pearls are magnificently beautiful and can be both inexpensive and incredibly bank-breaking (depending on the quality of course!). The least expensive pearl is man-made, while the freshwater takes second place and then, there’s the saltwater which comes in different colors and textures from around the World, therefore, price varies.

Nevertheless, pearls aren’t limited to sweet sixteen gifts or something you find at the bottom of grandma’s jewelry box anymore. In fact, the classic pearl has come out of its shell and recurs each year in more vibrant and luxurious styles. Choices range from simple to statement worthy and you’re sure to make heads turn while wearing them.

How To Stack Rings

Rings should essentially flatter your fingers, be it long, short, slender or wide. In addition, when wearing rings you must consider your typical nail length and shape, i.e. are they usually trimmed short or long or manicured and shaped? FYI: Longer nails usually lengthen the appearance of your fingers. As well, narrow rings or styles that extend toward your knuckles make your fingers appear long and sleek. For that reason, stacking rings is the hottest trend right now, as it’s the perfect finger party and form of expression. Nevertheless, the only rule to ring stacking is balance; so make sure you pay attention to your feng shui and maintain negative space (the space around or between a ring) when stacking.

IMG_8179

Today it’s all about stacking & layering your jewelry and the ultimate goal is to achieve a one-of-a-kind look. When it comes to stacking rings you can stack multiple rings on one finger or you can stack rings across many fingers. Therefore, putting on 7 rings at once is no longer taboo and has become a unique fashion art form. Accordingly, the most important aspect of stacking is that your stack should feel personal to YOU.

When stacking rings, try experimenting with different metals, stones, textures or colors. This will definitely add a je ne sais quoi to your overall look. So whether it’s silver, gold, rose gold, or copper; you no longer have to perfectly match your pieces. By mixing a few different metal rings, your fingers will look instantly dressier. In addition, mixing older pieces with modern or dainty pieces will have everyone addressing you as Ms. jewel-nista (lol). Also, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color; mixing colorful pieces is a great way to highlight your ensemble. Therefore, it’s not necessary to match your rings with your outfit as contrasting colors makes your look chic and glam.

The Anatomy of a Stack

On your index finger wear a cocktail ring or heirloom ring that stands out on it’s own, making it the focal point of your hand. Then the middle finger is where you would place your power stack, these are stackable rings that create cohesion. Hence, this is the finger where you can do your heavy layering. On the ring finger, you would wear a geometric ring or something unique and daring. As well, on the first knuckle of the ring finger you can wear a midi ring. This ring enhances the texture and the depth of the stack. Then finally on the pinky finger you would wear another midi ring but something simple (Remember that negative space I mentioned earlier!).

IMG_8184

On the other hand, you can just do a one-finger stack, where you wear 4 or 5 similar thin rings, 2 different sized rings, or various size rings, depending on how ambitious you are, of course!. There’s even an adorable wedding ring stack where you can have your engagement ring, wedding ring and a ring for each child. This type of stack makes a beautiful statement about marriage and the the unity of family.

since minimalist jewelry is reigning supreme you can also just wear thin rings above each knuckle or one on your index finger and the other on your ring finger.

Finally, another way to make a statement with stackable rings is to purchase pre-arranged stacks from www.madisongems.com. These rings come in varying shapes and sizes and you don’t have to worry about designing your own stack. These rings look great stacked together or worn alone; but either way your look will be magnificent. What does your ring dream ring stack look like? Tell us in the comments below.

Ify Onwualu as a “Bling Queen” for Halloween.

With Halloween around the corner and the holiday season rapidly approaching, an overflow of masquerade ball invitations will be headed your way via first class mail.

A masquerade ball is a soirée that requires attendees to wear a mask and costume. It’s a celebration that evokes a sense of excitement, mystery and opulence, giving your guests the opportunity to not only be creative with their attire, but to socialize more freely, as they are in disguise. Ergo, These social gatherings date back to the 15th Century, where elaborate and decadent celebrations of marriage, dances and pageants were held only for the upper class.

Conversely, the concept of the masquerade ball has changed considerably throughout the centuries; it’s still a party that requires attendees to wear masks and costumes. However, it’s not a secretive event meant solely for the elite. Oftentimes, they’re typically black-tie affairs for just about any occasion. (i.e. Halloween, Christmas, New Years, birthdays, weddings, valentine’s day, proms, charity events or just because).

Accordingly, when it comes to choosing a masquerade mask there are three main factors that play into deciding what to wear to an event; it depends on the occasion, your outfit, and the image you want to convey. For a general masquerade party, any type of mask goes. Whether you have on a LBD, a costume, or denim, the Ornate Feather Half Mask from www.madisongems.com will be the perfect pairing with your ensemble.

On the other hand, if you’re attending a fancy schmancy, aristocrtic affair, that requires an elaborate evening gown or a super glamorous dress, then you need to step up your game ten-fold. Undoubtedly, you must go with a majestic, stately mask, such as the Crystal Masquerade Mask, which comes in four different styles at www.madisongems.com.

Accessorizing for a Milestone

A prom is a teenager’s first social dance and the first opportunity for a young lady to feel not only special, but also glamorous. It’s a huge milestone at best, as it’s one of the most anticipated days of a High School student’s tenure, besides graduation, of course!

Earlier this year I was given the opportunity to visit The Young Women’s Leadership School of Queens in New York, where I met with a group of the most bright and intelligent young ladies, to speak about accessorizing for their prom. Thus, knowing how to choose prom accessories is key when putting together a formal look and opulent fashion jewelry adds a touch of glam and sparkle to any ensemble. Essentially, the jewelry you choose signifies your own personal stamp, while highlighting the details of your gown.

Accordingly, I gave the girls a crash course on choosing their jewelry based on the neckline of their dress, style of dress, color of dress, and hairstyle. Likewise, most of the girls had pictures of their dresses, so we had one-on-ones about selecting pieces from www.madisongems.com that would compliment their looks.

Furthermore, in conjunction with the teachers, we conducted fun academic challenges where three girls won fabulous prizes from Madison Gems to wear to the prom. Withal, I had a wonderful day meeting these young ladies. We bonded instantly as they expressed plans about their future goals and aspirations. They were a breath of fresh air and a joy to be around. I truly felt honored to be in the presence of tomorrow’s scholars, leaders, and entrepreneurs.

Earlier this year Madison Gems was gratefully fortunate to be a part of a fabulous Art Deco Styled Wedding photo shoot. It was held at the swanky 501 Union in Brooklyn, NY. This awesome shoot was beautifully curated by wedding coordinator Simone Vega of Coordinated To Perfection and Jessica Schmitt of Jessica Schmitt Photography; in addition, to a host of unrivaled first-class vendors. As a result, our shoot was honorably featured on MODWedding.

Our art deco styled shoot was the perfect combination of colors and details for a contemporary 1920’s wedding. In that fashion, dazzling hues of pink, black, white and gold really complimented each other. Likewise, the bride and bridesmaid wore unconventional garments and ornaments that mirrored a bit of vintage, a dash of modern and loads of glam.

Accordingly, Madison Gems provided jewels that captured a modern and luxurious feel. The bride showcased three jewelry looks: edgy, vintage and glam-luxe. While the bridesmaid harmoniously flaunted a chic, in-vogue guise. Together, they forged a look that was symmetrical and unparalleled, complimented by an outstanding décor. Withal, we hope our gallery of photos illuminates a bit of inspiration and that our concept is one that you’ll adopt freely.

How to wear: Statement Necklaces

Accessories, Bling, Fashion, Fashion jewelry, Fashionista, How to wear statement jewelry, How to wear statement necklaces, Jewelry, Madison Gems, Necklaces, Statement Jewelry, Statement Necklace, Style, Stylish, Trendy

Image-1

Statement necklaces are the alpha and omega of any ensemble. Thus, wearing one makes a bold superlative unspoken statement, representing the focal point of your outfit.

Statement necklaces are characteristically unique, large, attention-grabbing pieces with intricate details and an excessive amount of sparkle, shimmer and shine. They come in a wide variety of styles i.e. bejeweled pieces, beaded baubles, and metals. They also come in an infinite number of colors and color combinations. In addition, statement necklaces come in different fits: like bibs, chokers, frontals, collars, and long/layered chains.

When pairing a statement necklace with a simple tee, solid peplum or tank top with a pair of jeans, the perfect go-to piece is the Chunky Chain Link Collar Necklace. It’s a metallic necklace that adds pop by dressing up your outfit and it comes in both silver and gold at www.madisongems.com. Gem Babes! don’t forget to wear heels to add that extra flair, especially if you’re wearing boyfriend jeans.

Another big hit is a colored statement necklace. It adds a certain je ne sais quoi to your look that’s unparalleled, as well as, spruces-up neutral colored wardrobes and simple prints. You can dress up a chambray shirt, add color to a LBD, elevate a casual graphic tee, uplift a sweatshirt, and colorize a white dress. The perfect colored bauble is the Bead Cluster Frontal Necklace Set from www.madisongems.com.

Bead Cluster Frontal Necklace Set $32

On the other hand, when it comes to cocktail attire you must dare to be noticed, by wearing your biggest, flashiest, and most electrifying bauble. I’m talking major objet d’art status; and the fitting conversation piece is the Snake Chain Statement Bib Necklace Set from www.madisongems.com.

Snake Chain Statement Bib Necklace Set $40

However, for a bejeweled cocktail attire adornment that will have you looking like a fabulous red carpet-worthy celebrity, you should go with the pièce de résistance of necklaces; the Laurel Wreath Marquise Evening Necklace Set or the Stone Drama Necklace Set from www.madisongems.com.

Withal, whether you’re wearing a simple tee & jeans or you’re decked-out for a cocktail party, the right statement necklace can elevate your look dazzlingly. Nevertheless, being that your statement necklace is already so vivacious, you must make sure you tone down your other accessories because you don’t want to overwhelm your neckline or your overall look. In spite of this, I recommend wearing simple studs or hoops. Moreover, it doesn’t hurt to wear a nice statement cocktail ring to finish your avant-garde look and show off your awesome manicure while you’re at it.

Additionally, here’s a handy cheat sheet to learn which kind of necklace goes best with what kind of neckline.
